Offers Free Tobacco Cessation Program

Smoking CessationNow is the perfect time to quit your tobacco habit. Whether you smoke or use smokeless tobacco the United Community Health Center in Storm Lake can help you kick the habit through a program in association with the Iowa Department of Public Health.

The Iowa tobacco cessation program provides participants with up to 24 weeks of free professional healthcare counseling and free prescription medication to help kick the tobacco habit.

In order to meet eligibility for this new program participants will agree to report their success to Iowa Public Health counselors and must meet all the following criteria:

  1. Must be 18 years, or older.
  2. An Iowa resident.
  3. Participants must sign consent to be contacted by the Iowa Department of Public Health for follow-up.
  4. Must receive both counseling and medication refills every two weeks for the up to 24 week program.

Participants will have counseling sessions with UCHC providers every two weeks for the 24 week program period. Medications to aid in the tobacco cessation will be dispensed from UCHC pharmacy partner Hy-Vee/Ressler Drug in Storm Lake. Costs of the counseling sessions and medications will be covered by the Tobacco Cessation grant provided by the Iowa Department of Public Health.
